HISTORY OF SKA

This site is dedicated to my  friend

Don Turvey (R.I.P)

1953 - 2002

is an independent site dedicated to the sound of SKA, all music/songs on this site are performed by the original artists and local Bands,  RatRace,  Orange Street, Racketeers plus many more who pay tribute to Madness, Selecter, Bad Manners, Specials etc.......etc.....

nuttyboys.co.uk do not wish to mislead any person to the authenticity  of the editorial or pictures which have  been collated from other SKA sites who are also dedicated to the SKA revival.     This is Skaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The Bands on this site have their own web site's if you wish too book these bands you are advised to go direct to their site's, quoting ''nuttyboys'' . This will ensure you get VIP treatment.  If you have difficulties in contacting the bands email me and i will pass on your request.

I have recently formed this site  after having a second stroke last December 2004, at the young age of 50.  This left me unable to work due to many complications, also the recovery procedure is a long winding skaaaaaaa road.

So i have dedicated my time to promoting SKA music and helping to bring to the forefront  the music loved by many during the 70's and 80's

This sound was heard in England during the late seventies early eighties by such bands as The Beat, Specials, Bad Manners, Bodysnatchers, Judge Dread and of course Madness.

Reggae/Ska came to England much earlier by such likes as Desmond Dekker, Laurel Aitken and of course Bob Marley there are many more Clancy Eccles, John Holt.  When our friends from Jamaica moved to England  they brought with them there music this would have been in the sixties, i remember hearing the music blasting out in Union Street in my home town of Melksham as we played in the park.  The music then was known as reggae, music played in england at that time was Rock and Roll and Jazz.

I remember hearing Bob Marley records when i joined the army at the age of 15,  when i was eventually posted to CELLE in germany the music had stuck with me, also singers such as Greyhound, Dave & Ansell Collins, Pioneers plus many more as Johnny Nash, Jimmy Cliff etc etc...........the Invaders a london outfit originally dabbling with Rock and Roll eventually came across a singer with a unique style as the film goe's call me ''Suggs'' his style was unique at first not fully committed, eventually suggs returned to the band, their first gig was booked and when asked what they were called "MADNESS'' the rest is history.

Today there are many tribute bands with names that reflect there hero's such as RatRace after the Specials song, 1 Step & Orange Street also pay tribute to Madness and so on, there are many more such as Sound of the suburbs............This is Skaaaaaaaa.

Here on the South Coast the sound of SKA music is alive and kicking, Mr Kyps in Parkstone in Poole, promotes many tribute bands, such as RatRace  Orange Street, 2Tone.

These are quality SKA Bands that bring back the era of Madness etc, these bands can be seen throughout Dorset and Hampshire, i would recommend you pay them a visit.

I have seen the RatRace on many occasions in different enviroments at Mr Kyps, Poole Park and recently at Six Penny Hanley and many more venues  each time the floor is a wave of Ska dancing with smiling faces and singing, the lyrics you fully understand, different to todays so called Reggae music, there are also well known followers one in particular Judge Rudi who can be seen doing the Skank at most venues a very likeable honest guy who lives for the Sound of Skaaaaaa.

Orange Street are a band from the southampton area and have a great support they had their song Rough go the top of the  SKA Chart. These guys  pack halls along South and the coast. .

Since the site was launched i have had many bands requesting to join the nuttyboys revolution as far as Scotland, my intention is to help assist as many bands as possible.

On a final note i have made many friends on this journey, most important are you the fans who spend time out to view my site and attend gigs.

Pauline from the  who  are a quality act with her band.  I recently spent an hour chatting with her and guys before they were due to play, I was sad to hear they will be playing for the last time as  in December 2006, we had an interesting conversation about a HOOVER i will reveal this taped recording shortly.   Take time out to see the  also check out their website www.theselecter.net

Dougie (Buster) another quality act with his guys "Bad Manners"  Dougie is Mr Skaaaaa, 30 years on,  dougie told me on three occasions he nearly went to SKA Heaven, but i told him he was sent back to keep the SKA faith going.  Same as myself get out nuttyboy you have a job to do...............my job is not finished, so onwards and eventually upwards, take care  don't stop the faith that is SKA....

Thanks to many more Blockhead, Neville, Ranking Roger and Junior.......the list goe's on but most import is you the fans LETS KEEP THE SKAAAAAA FAITH
